Kate and Danny ran their first race last Saturday. I was at Enrichment, so Brent took them. This is definitely one of those times when you get to watch the difference between what their little minds expect and what actually happens. They both trained on Monday by chasing eachother in circles around the couch for, really, at least 20 minutes straight. The race was only a quarter mile. Kate practiced her technique for running faster, which was looking down at her feet.
Saturday morning they put on their running shoes and got pumped up by watching the Race Day episode of Backyardigans. Kate decided they should each take a water bottle. The race started, and they took off. Everyone was cheering for the kids, which they seemed to think was natural for a race, but I think they were surprised that they didn't come in first or second or third. Danny actually tripped, and after someone picked him up, finished the race and came in last, with everyone cheering him on, though.
