Kate's 1st Violin Recital & a Perfect Day!

Yesterday was Kate's first ever formal recital. (She didn't perform last year because her teacher doesn't like to mess around—she doesn't have her students in the recital until they have something to contribute. So after two years, we finally made it! So funny.) Kate nailed her solo. Way to go, girlie!
Friday night, we went out to eat to celebrate the Barthule's 61st anniversary. Wahoo! On the walk to the car Danny noticed the pretty sunset and told me, "Mom, on Curious George they say that a nice sunset means the next day will be perfect for a picnic." How perfect could that be? And truly yesterday was absolutely perfect picnic weather. The weather here has been amazing the last week. We have been desperately trying to enjoy every minute we can outdoors before the Sacramento summer finds us. Yesterday we accomplished a great amount of time outdoors, and it was pretty much the perfect day.
Getting ready for the show.

Kate's bouquet.
The picnic was just right, with lots of time for lounging and telling stories and chasing bunnies. At Kate's insistence, we had an outdoor concert. Those of you who know me know I was totally eating this up. Outdoor concert in the summer twilight! You can see we had a lot of talent there.

It's been pretty exciting for me to watch Kate's moments where she gets enthralled working on her violin. They are coming slightly more often now. After two years of cajoling her to play nearly every song in every practice, this is such a huge reward. She really seems to enjoy playing since she's started to read music. We ended the day roasting marshmallows and watching the first stars come out.
